4bidday is back!
The 4th of each month is our 4bidday, an experimental day for exhibitions and discussions. We invite you to participate with your work, to watch, to listen and talk. FOR ONE DAY The gallery becomes a space in which you present a research, a work and the process of creation or a question. It becomes a home for discussions and a place for sharing thoughts, allowing Viewer and Viewed to find meeting points. The site functions as a means to help developing creative processes. By allowing an encounter between audience and the work we hope to facilitate a conversation between the two within a space where “it is possible to go wrong”. 4bidday is a chance for the visitor to discover contemporary art in a non-formal environment, with no prejudices, giving both sides (Viewer and Viewed) the chance to discuss face to face and open up sights. Viewer will meet the artist, get to know about his work, and engage with others. Viewed will benefit from feedback and have a possibility compare their views.
Short study on James Brown´s music (work in progress)
Location: 4bid Gallery, OT301 Overtoom 301 Amsterdam
By and with artist: Marianthi Michailidou
James Brown`s music is the starting point for this performance. What inspires me in his craft besides his music are the warmth, immediacy, authenticity and generosity he communicates with the audience.
The direct physical connection between the body and the music lies at the root of this work. Music and body make an ensemble as opposed to follow or complement each other. They share a language of rhythms, sounds, words, energies and stories.
The interrelation of the different elements gives form and meaning to the performance. It acts as well as a compass to trace the different materials, classify and compose them in space and time.
Biography: I am a dance artist based in Amsterdam. I have studied Classic Letters in the University in Athens and accomplished the Carl Orff music kinetic pedagogical method for children. I have been trained in modern dance, instant composition , choreography ( School for New Dance Development) and in somatic practices (with Jacques van Eijden and Patricia Bardi).
I have been giving the past twenty years modern and creative dance, improvisation and choreography lessons to children and adults in Amsterdam and Greece. I have made performances with and for children presented in primary schools.
I have been making solo and group choreographies for the past 14 years.
The body in relationship to the space remains the core in my work. The voice and the language in their different manifestations –sounds, words, poetic text- are in dialogue with the body. This continually regenerating itself dialogue evokes images, associations and sensations that provide the inner flow of the choreography.
